Martial Software or Martial Hardware?

Remember in The Matrix when Morpheus downloaded those dozens of different martial arts programs (software) into Neo’s brain and he instantly could perform all the techniques from those arts?

That is a perfect example of a software upgrade.  Techniques instantly available at your fingertips – literally!

But what if you could perform better at your martial art, or arts, of choice without having to learn one more technique?

What if  increasing the number of techniques you know was never the answer to improving your martial skill?

What if instead of upgrading your martial software, like Neo, you upgraded your martial hardware?

What is Martial Hardware?

Martial hardware is the muscles, bones, tendons and fascia.  It is the processing speed, the mind-body connection.  It is the strength, clarity, and hugeness of mind intent (yi), the driver.  Connecting the body together as one dynamically stable unit driven by intent dramatically increases the martial capacity of the end user – you.

Instead of working on techniques to improve your martial practice, you work on the vehicle that carries out the techniques.  Trying to get good at martial arts by working on techniques is quite literally the slow boat to China.  Hell, you may never arrive at any appreciable level of skill that way.

“Form is merely the container into which you put your martial power. Technique is merely the means by which you display it.  If you do not have any martial power, than of what use is technique?”  – Jon Haas

How to Upgrade Martial Hardware

Upgrading your martial hardware is a process of learning how to connect the body through strengthening and conditioning of the connective tissue controlled by mind-intent (yi).  It is accomplished through specific solo training exercises and paired partner training. The exercises incorporate standing practice, breath training, slow movement exercises to test connection, winding and spiraling, and more.

YinYang theory

The basis for the method is what is known as the “union of opposites”, or In Yo Ho, in Japanese.  By creating opposing forces within the body (up/down, left/right, front/back) through the use of mind-intent we begin to increase the mind-body connection to a remarkable degree.  Through the solo training exercises we condition and strengthen the entire fascia network, as well as tendons and ligaments, throughout the body.  This process serves to create a connected body through the center so that when ‘one thing move, everything moves’.

The training method of upgrading your martial hardware spans thousands of years and has been handed down through the ages within the warrior traditions of India, China, and Japan.  It is a body technology with a set method and detailed process of instruction that simply cannot be learned by osmosis.  It must be explicitly taught.
