Why I Hate Kickboxing

For months now people have been asking me to implement a Kick Boxing program at Warrior Fitness Gym.  I’ve been resisting the pressure mainly due to one important factor – I hate kick boxing. 🙂

Allow me to clarify.  I hate what real kick boxing has devolved into, the dreaded “cardio” kick boxing.  To me, cardio kick boxing is almost worse than Zumba as far as fitness goes.

Within Cardio Kick Boxing, there is no strength training component, there is no incremental progression, there is no proper warm-up or cool down.  And, to make matters worse, there is very little understanding of the structural integrity of the body, especially in regards to throwing a punch or kick.  To me this is very wrong because it increases the chances of injury for the participants.

Because the correct bio-mechanics are often not taught in these types of classes and participants are simply instructed to flail away at targets as hard as possible, they are subject to a much higher risk of joint and soft tissue damage in the wrists, elbows, and shoulders.  This is extremely irresponsible on the part of the instructor(s), in my humble opinion.

All of the above reasons combined contributed to my extreme dislike of all things kick boxing related.

But, then I started to think about it….

If I knew all the problems with conventional cardio kick boxing, had much more than the requisite martial arts experience required, AND knew how to properly craft a progressive program that would grant phenomenal results, then why shouldn’t I create my own?

So I did.  Building on over 30 years of martial arts training, along with my experience as a strength coach, I pulled from my Warrior Fitness Training Systems to put together the most comprehensive “kick boxing” program ever seen!
