No More Excuses

Most days I love training.  No secret there.  But every once in a while, when I’m not quite feeling it, I catch myself looking for an excuse.  At these times the flimsiest, lamest excuse will do.  You know what I mean, right?  The funny thing about excuses is that to someone outside looking in, they seem to be the most ridiculous and inane things, yet to we who are making them they seem to be perfectly logical and iron clad.  Fact is, once we set our minds on an excuse, it takes a huge, overwhelming effort to push it aside and get done what we need to do.  Continue reading

Don’t Fall Into This Trap

The other day as I was running around teaching classes at the gym, working on various upcoming projects, and writing articles, I suddenly found myself running short on time for my own workout.  I had planned to have an hour to myself before going to pick up the kids, but somehow it didn’t quite work out that way.  As I looked at the clock, calculated how little time I actually had left before having to run out, it didn’t seem possible to accomplish the workout I had planned for the day.  Continue reading

Quit or Destroy

When faced with a seemingly insurmountable obstacle in life, you really have only 2 options – go forward or go backward.  Backward is to quit, to give up, to walk away.  Backward is not a viable option unless you don’t mind living with regret.  But regret is a pain that does not go away.  It haunts you forever.  It’s like dying a little bit each day, over and over again for the rest of your life.  No thanks.  Not for me.  Pass. Awaken The Man

Comfortably slumbering under the influence of the drug that is modern society, the true power of man lies dormant.

Too much of the wrong foods have made him sluggish and their excesses have made him round.

Too much sitting, whether it be in an office laboring behind a keyboard, or on a couch relaxing from that labor in front of a television, has made him weak and brittle.

Too much time indoors has taken the natural healthy glow and replaced it with a pasty, snow white tan gained under the glare of a fluorescent sun.

Too many worries and stresses about how to have more, or keep it, have robbed him of his real sleep and etched artificial lines across his forehead and bags under his eyes.  (Are we still worried about the zombie apocalypse?  Hell, it may already be happening and we don’t even know it!) Fitness or Fatness, Your Choice

Seems pretty simple, right – fitness or fatness?  If our choices for how our bodies would look, feel, and move were laid out like an a la carte menu it would make life much easier.  Would you like the fit body today or the fat one?  Either or.  Take your pick.  Would you like the body with joint pain and stiffness today or the one that feels like a well-oiled machine?  Would you like the uncoordinated body today or the one that moves with grace, power, and presence?  Hmmm… these choice, when laid out in black or white look relatively easy, don’t they?  Who’s going to be the one to choose the tired, broken down body over the strong, healthy body?  No brainer, isn’t it? 3 Words I Hope to Never Utter

This year I will turn 40.  Some have been saying that 40 is the new 20.  Well, if that’s true then there are a lot of seriously out of shape 20 year olds running around!  The more I listen to people my own age, and sadly some even younger, the more I hear the 3 words I hope to God to never utter myself. Continue reading
